With a belt starting at $50 you would expect it to be actually leather. Like many other belts made in China, this belt is made of pressed leather. It looks nice from the front, but if you hold it and turn it over, you can see that they're just cheap, compressed pieces of leather that won't last long. It smells kind of chemically like plastic and not the slightest hint of leather smell. There is also sticky, oily glue residue on the back of the belt. The edges of the belt are not polished like real leather. They're sealed in cheap black plastic, like faux leather belts and wallets. It usually breaks after wearing it several times. I can wear this belt multiple times once the smell goes away and that sticky residue dries. Ariat makes great boots, but they also make cheap belts. I will no longer buy Chinese Ariat belts.
