Review on πŸ”§ BMC Universal Vacuum Pump: Handheld Brake Bleeder Kit Ensuring Efficient Auto Service & Food Canning with Brake Bleeding Tester Set by Steve Brethorst

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Works perfectly. in the brake tool

I like it. Great price and in a plastic case. Works as I expected. Useful for my yearly ritual of flushing and replacing old DOT 3 brake fluid with new fluid. I had to lubricate the wheel bearings around the caliper bleeders to keep air from escaping through the threads when the valve is opened with vacuum. The collection cup that the liquid drains into has an o-ring on the lid and you need to make sure it sits in the groove before sealing the lid onto the cup. You also need to keep the bowl upright to prevent liquid from entering the vacuum pump. Keep an eye on the reservoir and keep it full as you pump the old fluid through the system. While this worked great for flushing out old fluids, I don't know how effective a vacuum pump is at removing air from a system when you're replacing a line or caliper and need to deflate. The vacuum pump does not move liquid as much as the two-man pumping method. I would probably still rely on the two man method if I needed to replace a line or caliper and needed to bleed air. Do not apply brake cleaner to the plastic lens of the gauge as this will damage the lens and make the gauge difficult to read.

Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
