The lighting is good. Solar charging is also pretty good. My 2 complaints are minor but annoying: 1) The lights are wrapped in a solar panel/controller on the hidden end of the cable. That means if you want to place the solar panel/controller where you want it (in a sunny spot) and then unroll the strings, you need to unroll them at the other end first. Not perfect. 2) The light mode will revert to the default "variable light" mode after one charge cycle. So if the controller is in an awkward spot (e.g. on an umbrella), you'll have to switch modes to get the light you want every day. This annoyance can be overcome with the remote control which 3) is not included in this set. Wouldn't buy it again out of frustration, but wouldn't throw it away/send it back either.
