This worked fine on Windows 7 after I downloaded Audacity and Lame. Even though my laptop has a stereo mic input, there was a lot of hissing when I tried to record with Audacity and a mic input. I could not detect any noise with the USB audio capture card. The following information struck me in the device properties (which I have not seen in any other device): 2 channels, 16-bit, 48000 Hz. Therefore it probably makes sense to set Audacity to record at 48000 Hz and 16-bit (under Edit / settings / quality).
