Capture is good but you need to control it with a preamp.

I needed this for an inexpensive way to record live sound from a mixer onto a Dell combo combo (computer built into a touch screen) so it had no audio input, just USB. The recording is good, but it needs to be preamplified to get a good signal. I use the stereo headphone jack on the mixer in pre-fade mode for maximum gain.

  • Wow

Waste of time - useless

Was really hoping it would work. I wanted to digitize the cassettes. I'm using Windows 10 and already had Audacity installed on my computer, but I reinstalled the software. Never mind, never worked as intended. Also, their online help/FAQs are useless. The Audacity website recommends the Behringer U-Control UCA202. I had to do this but the positive reviews here proved it to be a decent product. Guilty.

It suits me very well

This worked fine on Windows 7 after I downloaded Audacity and Lame. Even though my laptop has a stereo mic input, there was a lot of hissing when I tried to record with Audacity and a mic input. I could not detect any noise with the USB audio capture card. The following information struck me in the device properties (which I have not seen in any other device): 2 channels, 16-bit, 48000 Hz. Therefore it probably makes sense to set Audacity to record at 48000 Hz and 16-bit (under Edit / settings…

Works perfect, MP3 quality

Works perfect, MP3 quality from my old cassette. The Audacity software works great (you can get the latest version as the CD isn't the latest). My first mistake as I never use this kind of tool/software. The cassette player volume was around 25% and the finished mp3 was so weak I had no idea the volume was supposed to be at 100% when recording in Audacity. The software has many features (even for a free software tool) and works great with this tool. Good price, best spent $17 on something I had

Works well but requires patience

This is a good product for connecting analog audio equipment and PC/laptop. The Audacity software isn't bad, but it takes practice. I highly recommend reading their instructions and checking out their tutorials. It's possible to convert your analog music into a great digital format if you start with a quality audio recording. I started with a high end tape recorder and then ran the signal through an equalizer in front of a laptop. If you don't have an equalizer, Audacity has a built-in…

Do you really need a driver?

Extremely disappointed. Audacity is great and I've been using it for about 10 years now. I have several external devices that my iMac and Audacity can recognize without plug and play drivers. (Choose File > Open, scroll down to Location, and there's an icon that says "NO NAME" next to it.) No problem. Not so with this V.TOP Capture Card. Undetectable. I even pressed the record button just for fun without finding the device. zero line. I bought this product to digitize old tapes and records…

Not the best option for recording vinyl

Although this (ahem) "capture card" says in the description that it "converts an old collection of cassette tapes, vinyl records and LPs into crisp, clear digital images." Audio Files" when I had questions about this, VTOP support told me that "the USB Audio Grabber doesn't work well with a turntable, not even an amplifier" when I was recording through this device via the RCA inputs .12db and I wanted to record with peaks of -6db to -4db for that extra headroom. To their credit, the BTOP…

It's worth the investment, but don't expect miracles

I had a small collection of ten year old audiocassettes of memories that I wanted to digitize and burn to CD for my family and I chose the Fly Kan product because of the price, ease of use and reviews. Of course I already had a tape recorder with a headphone jack. The process was pretty simple: plug one end into the headphone jack on my portable stereo (or "boom box," to use the obsolete term) and the USB end into (in my case) a Windows 10 Surface Book laptop (Audacity) and start copying. As…
