I gave my wife one of these six months ago after being completely unimpressed by the reviews for a similar GE product. Basically I wanted something that would involve their 3 public radio stations and give me an incentive to feed the cats. The problem is, this damn thing requires an install that took me 4-5 hours, not counting the five months I've just been thinking about it. high frequency fidelity (although slightly dull sounding). Cons: It's deeper than I expected. The only place under the cabinet where it could be placed was in the corner. Oddly, Sony's instructions warn against installing it near fluorescent lights. (What should you do - replace the wiring in the kitchen?) This might explain why the radio reception, while decent, will likely fail to impress. Just by fiddling with the power cord (which doubles as an antenna) I can get acceptable sound at most remote (40-70 miles) stations. If only the manufacturers would do without some automatic functions and station memories in favor of more sensitive and selective tuners. And indeed, the unit has a "Megabass" switch with a single setting - but does anyone remember the days when radios came with a handy little knob called a "Tone Control"? All in all a well made product. offers reliable performance and value. A great gift for a handyman in the family.
