The width feels snug at first but not too tight (boots need breaking in often so start with thinner socks). Once you penetrate it, you will feel great. Today is August 18th. now - I had to throw away my current brown and put on a replacement. Over time, the sole and welt became weak and uncomfortable. Probably because I wore brown and black to work every day. I love this style so I don't mind ordering them as I need them for work and everyday occasions. They last at least a year if you don't wear them to work as often as I do (every other day).
