Better than the original design!

Glad I got these instead of removing them from my old truck. The ends of the cable/bracket are sealed with heat shrink tubing - better than OEM! So there is no need to think about rust in the near future.

Pros
  • Easy to install
Cons
  • Big and bulky

Not suitable for both sides

For many years I only had 1 cable. I bought these for my 2000 Ford Ranger and lo and behold as some of the comments said they are not mutual. My right side is weak and cannot bear the load.

Pros
  • Replace in pairs
Cons
  • Damaged

It is significantly shorter than the other. Probably .

Significantly shorter than the others. I probably should have bought a pair. I think the other one might be stretched. Works as advertised. Fast delivery. There are no claims. If you need one, get a pair.

Pros
  • Interchangeable in pairs
Cons
  • Wrinkled

Great cables, hard-to-shoot originals.

Great replacement for tailgate cables on my Ford Ranger. The biggest problem I had was loosening the T40 bolts. Man, they're in there. I originally bought a cheap T-40 screwdriver to do this, but ended up using a ratchet and torch to take it off. So. Get a propane torch and a ratchet and you'll be fine.

Pros
  • Suitable for both sides.
Cons
  • socket required.

Quality Cable - Replacement Parts

This cable is as good as the original cable that came with my 1997 Ford Ranger XL. The cable came in pairs, but it doesn't really matter. I was planning to just replace the defective one but found the Dorman cable was slightly longer than the OEM cable making it necessary to replace both. It doesn't matter, and only mention it for informational purposes. Even if the Dorman cables were the same length as the OEM, it would make sense to change both cables at the same time.

Pros
  • 16 5/16" Length
Cons
  • Safety

Buy in pairs - normally easy to fit - affordable price -

Had to go to a local service station that still works with cars to loosen the screw. Needed an impact wrench with some power as my cordless drill didn't have enough power to do the job despite having the right sprocket. Easy installation afterwards. Bought pair. One "seems" to be longer than the other - I think that's because the back door can be a bit warped from wear and tear. But now I've installed two cables, and not one I've had for so many years after the other broke. Time will tell about

Pros
  • Fits either side
Cons
  • Some imperfections

Rear Door Wire Dorman for 2003 Ranger

For Right or Left Side, unlike Ford OEM parts. Slightly longer, so if one wire fails, just buy two and replace both (like headlights). The biggest problem is loosening the torx screw on the tailgate. Dissimilar metals, so oxidation will occur and the bolt will NOT move, but (eventually) will. This requires a T-40 Torx bit (asterisk). Another feature I like is the rubber sealed grommet on each end of the cable, while Ford's OEM cable is a rubber jacketed cable that crimps onto fittings at both…

Pros
  • For Both Side
