It doesn’t stop charging

It may have killed my stock scx24 2s battery by overcharging. The 2 red "charging” lights would stay on for hours. After one red light refused to turn green all day, I decided to check the voltage with a multimeter. One cell was dead. I knew nothing about lipos or batteries in general. After researching lipos I learned that each cell should be charged to no more than 4.2 volts max, stored at 3.8 volts, and discharged no less than 3.0 volts. Fast forward, I ordered new batteries. Checked them out of the box they were stored at around the recommended 3.8 volts. I threw it on the charger and basically what was happening was the light would stay red past the recommended 4.2 volts (8.4 combined for 2 cells) unless I unplugged and plugged the battery back in. Only then would they stay green. This defeats the whole purpose of the "automatic” shut off at 8.4 volts per 2s battery. Well really 4.2 volts per cell since this is a balance charger and charged each cell separately. So to use this charger I would have to constantly check them with a multimeter to ensure they aren’t benign overcharged. No thanks. I’m returning this and buying a ternegy charger that has all the volt read outs and also a discharge feature. You would spend less In the end because they will make your batteries last longer as well as not pose a fire hazard by overcharging. Simply charge slowly to 4.2, use battery till ideally 3.8ish and keep stored at 3.8 until ready to use then charge up again to 4.2. Rinse and repeat.

Pros
  • Good cheep charger works well with my big batteries.
Cons
  • The charger's instructions are difficult to understand
