I've heard a lot of good things about Neat and have studied the scanners extensively. I have a Fujitsu fi series scanner but it doesn't support Neat very well so I chose the ScanSnap mainly to get its software and use it with Neat. What I found is that Neat has come a long way since they stopped supporting their legacy version. It was horrible to recognize business cards; it only works when the scanner is connected directly (so it cannot be used over Wi-Fi, which is one of the coolest features of the iX1500); and it completely missed about half of the receipts I tried, as if they had never been scanned. Therefore, order the ScanSnap iX1500 separately or the ScanSnap iX1500 Premium if you need a 3-year warranty. I love Evernote, but you only need the Evernote version if you're not already an Evernote subscriber. Instead of Neat, I'm looking at Hubdoc, which seems to be a great replacement for Neat at the moment, albeit a bit more expensive. It's worth it, though - it offers much better reliability, an intuitive interface, and superior functionality. And I really have to disagree with previous reviewers of the iX500 versus the iX1500. With more plastic the iX1500 is easier to move around and I doubt there will be a difference in durability.
