Review on Modway Jive Office Chair: A Sleek Black Mid Back Chair for Your Workspace by Derek Bates

Short woman with back problems finally finds a chair

If you're under 5'1" and shorter than a linebacker, you know how difficult it can be to find a comfortable work chair. If we could lower the tables it might help but we can't. So we're stuck, trying to find an awkward height compromise between the adjustable chair we swim in, whose feet barely touch the floor, and a standard-height table. I'm 5ft 3in and I have lower back issues (SI and facet joint) and now this is my 4th chair in a year. Two were VERY expensive ($500+) because I was specifically looking for lumbar support and brands known for their ergonomic design. Only they were clearly made for men. Even with the lumbar pillow they didn't support my back at all and at the end of the day I had to get up. I finally took a chance and bought this chair because it looked "small". It turns out it's not that small. I need another lumbar pillow. And I also still have to work in wedges to keep my legs at a healthy angle and my feet touching the ground. But I FINALLY feel good and work without unbearable pain. Note - assembly was SUPER easy. I kept looking for directions, but there were none. Then I realized why - you don't even need them. The white chair also had a few dirty fingerprints on the seat. The magic eraser worked, but it took a while. I know this fabric/color can get dirty. Looking back, I had to pay about an extra $35 for the black one.

Pros
  • Sturdy design
Cons
  • A nuisance
