Review on Winegard LNA-100 Boost TV Antenna Amplifier - HDTV Signal Booster with HD Digital VHF UHF Amplification - Indoor Ultra Low Noise Amp (USB Power Supply) by Chris Hanson

TV mount - must be close to the antenna

The wiring on the amplifier box is the female end going to the antenna side and the male end going to the TV side. So the designers expected this amplifier to be built into the TV. That rarely solves the problem. The amplifier must always be mounted on the antenna, even if it is built into the antenna. Due to the long coaxial cables, antenna amplifiers are usually required. I have 100 feet. This amp is for indoor use only but I figured I could use it since my antenna is in the attic. Maybe, but not that easy. The amplifier is connected to the power supply with a fairly short cable. That means I need to install a 120V AC outlet in the attic. It would be possible to do this as there are readily available Romex wires that I could cut and make a connector box. But the moment I forgot came when I was trying to figure out how to install on coax. If the female end goes to the antenna I would need to run a short connector from the antenna transformer to this amplifier. On the other hand, I would have to install a barrel connector with sockets at both ends. It's just not worth it. Still, this little amplifier works great when placed next to the antenna. I pulled the extension to my attic, pulled out the barrel connector and short jumper, plugged it in, and the channels that were marginal but with dropouts now matched great. Now I have a channel that I didn't have before. All my problems are gone. So I return this one and get a Winegard LNA-200. Although it's $15 more expensive, I don't need to install a power plug and use these adapters. I do not recommend this amp for installation next to a TV. If you have an indoor antenna, this will work fine as long as you have the connector next to the antenna. You also need a barrel connector and a short coaxial cable (see photo).
