Review on 🚴 ICAN 38mm Carbon Road Bike Wheelset 700C Rim Brake Sapim CX-Ray Spokes Lightweight Cincher Rim - 23mm Width for Efficient Riding by Daron Ellis

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great wheels, needs some tweaking out of the box

They were close to turning 5 but there are some issues. The bikes arrived well packaged and in an undamaged box. The first thing I do after delivery is always place the wheels on a straightening stand. The front wheel was far away, as if it wobbled noticeably in one section. After about 30 minutes of fiddling with the spoke tension, I was able to perfect the wheel. The rear wheel was also turned out but it wasn't noticeable but I also spent about 10 minutes aligning it. The rear hub (as delivered) was very, very noisy, I opened the freewheel and added a small amount of non-migrating grease behind each bar, this made the wheel much quieter. Fitting my Conti 25mm tires was quite a challenge! I don't normally need tools to mount a tire, but this rim made it a little harder for me. To remove tires I use the Crank Bros Speed Tool which also has an additional tool to put the tire on the rim. The tire was so tight that this tool was useless. Went and bought some Pedro levers and it really solved the problem but damn it was hard to install! Well that's really all the bad things I've found, not straight, hard to mount tires and noisy freewheel. Some users didn't use the skewers that came with the wheels, but I did it with no problems, the skewers were light weight and snapped securely into place so I saw no reason not to use them. Well good things the wheels are light mine weighed 1340g unpacked and assembled with skewers cut a total of 225 grams off my old Easton EA90 wheels. When delivered, the wheels were equipped with Sapim embossed aero spokes. Comes with a spacer on the hub if you're still using a 9/10 speed cassette. I've only ridden it about 100km so far. They really shine on rough pavement and eliminate almost all vibration. In cross winds I don't see any difference between them and my small aluminum wheels so that's a plus! They accelerate very quickly, and it's easy to accelerate in a sprint. Didn't notice any flex but I'm light so I'm not surprised. For braking, I did not use the pads that came with the wheels, but switched to Williams Bike Blue pads for carbon wheels. With these pads there is almost no brake noise, in fact I have almost the same amount of noise as with AL wheels, and braking is almost as good in dry conditions, not wet yet. The graphics are light gray and go well with my silver gray Scott graphics on my bike.
