Review on Premium Aluminum External USB 3.0 UHD 4K Blu-Ray Writer Super Drive for PC and Mac by Archgon by Christopher Gulledge

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good for reading 4K UHD BluRay but has its limitations.

I bought this mainly to copy my new UHD drives, make backups and upload them to my NAS for media playback in June 2019. Although it worked mostly after flashing it to firmware version 1.00, I still had a lot of read errors with this drive and had to keep trying until I had a decent copy. It read almost any standard BluRay I threw at it, but it struggled with UHD discs. Just recently I bought Game of Thrones: The Complete Collection, The Hobbit: Trilogy and Lord of the Rings: Trilogy on 4K UHD and it's just that each of the discs had problems reading and not even showing up as a disc in the drive registered and I heard it click and try to read discs. After a bit of research, I came to the conclusion that this drive has trouble reading 100GB triple layer UHD discs. Well all the movies I just bought couldn't read discs because they were all on 3 layer discs. " A UHD optical drive that I could fit into the case since my computer is all tempered glass. Another thing to look out for is the type of case or connector used for standard sized drives should be, as not all of them allow you to flash through them. If on the market, search the MakeMKV forums for info on what drives and enclosures are good for backups. You can find them here on Revain .Overall this is a decent drive for backing up smaller standard 4K discs and your standard BluRay discs, but be aware that there will be serious problems reading triple layer 4K discs, which is common with many new ones It's common for movies to be phased in, and as more and more 4K movies come with extras on the disc, you'll find that the disc is likely to be triple layered.
