Update December 2021 It's been a few years since I started running Conti 5000 tires and I think it's about time to update this review and rating. I originally gave the 5000 tires three stars when they came out because they were about "a size" narrower than the 4000 tires I've been using for a number of years (both the original version and the "4000s II" " version). I'm still driving Conti tires (Grand Prix 5000 "Standard", not TR or TL) on all three racing bikes. I like the ride quality as well as the low rolling resistance based on some test results available online. I also feel that the tires have very good grip on the typical road surfaces I drive on (asphalt roads, paved bike lanes). I can't talk about wet performance as I live in a dry climate. As for flat surface resistance, I can't say I notice a dramatic improvement in flat surface resistance, but it's difficult to accurately quantify it based on actual data. experience world. I still get punctures from time to time, but I don't think they are any worse than any other high performance tire. The only downside to these tires is that they can be very expensive. If you rarely drive or are concerned about your budget, you should look elsewhere. Long story short, I'm still a Conti fan and I love tires so I've upped my rating to five stars. As for the width I personally use, I run 28mm 5000 tires on my Specialized Roubaix Pro. For the much heavier Co-motion Carrera tandem (Rolf Carbon Tandem wheels) I stick with the wider 32mm tires. Note that the maximum pressure on the 5000 version tires is lower than on the older 4000 tires. So check your sidewalls to make sure you're not over-inflating your tires. --------------- I am an experienced rider and long-time fan of Conti 4000 tires, which I use exclusively on my road bikes and my co-motion tandem. I have used tires of various widths from 23mm to 28mm with a tandem with 28mm tires. I ordered new 28mm Conti 5000 front and rear tires (not tubeless) to replace the 28mm 4000s II tires already fitted. Much to my dismay, the new 5000s are much narrower than the old ones. 4000 sec. I only noticed that when I installed the front wheel and saw that it was noticeably narrower than the old rear wheel. I've included two photos - the first holding the two tires flat on top of each other to compare the width of the carcass itself (unmounted). The second shows a Conti 5000 mounted on a Rolf Carbon tandem bike. The caliper is set to the set width of an old 4000 tire so you can see the difference. All tires were inflated to 95psi at the time of filming. In the end, psi and rims don't matter since the frame is significantly narrower than the old 4000s. The ride feels the same as on 4000 tires. However, I can take them off a tandem (heavier bike) and use them on road bikes. In the end I can look for alternatives, although finding something with low rolling resistance and good grip can be difficult. I think the Conti quality is still there. For some of you the width doesn't matter, for others just think of the narrower profile compared to older 4000 tires.
