Great tire, good for tires

I have ridden several tire brands (over the years) and decided to try them (Continental 5000). First I had Orbea Orca which I have had for a few years now. I bought two 28 tires for the front and rear and found that I could only fit 25s in the front and 28s in the rear. I said what the hell, I really couldn't make much of a difference. Well, I was very, very surprised! The bike ran much smoother (much) and the speed increased! I felt like I had a completely different bike! The tires handled…

I'm glad I waited until they went tubeless on my road bike.

Great tires! I had no trouble fitting them to my Hunt 50 carbon wheels. The other guy saying they're garbage because he can't turn them on sounds like user error to me. Tubeless tires shouldn't just slide like a clincher tire. Took me about 10 minutes per tire including pumping up the sealant. In any case, I've already driven 750 km with it without any problems. There's a positive difference in ride quality compared to the 4000II. The main thing I noticed was a smoother ride quality. The…

Schwalbe Pro One vs. Grand Prix 5000 TL

First impression; Installation was much easier on my ENVE 3.4 tubeless carbon bikes. I really had to use the levers on the 5000 TL, but they were very easy to use. I use an air compressor to lift the tire onto the rim beads. The Pro One had so much pressure on the tire arms I thought I might break the arms or carbon rims if the tire was on the rim. Both the old Pro One tire and the Cont. 5000 TL are 28mm tires. The 5000 TL is significantly smaller than the Pro One, both in terms of width and…

Tire width 23mm Grand Prix 5000

I have inspected my TT carefully ahead of the upcoming races and decided that I need to change the rear tyre, it just showed a flat spot in the middle. So everything matters in the TT, I just can't live with that little flat spot in a race where everything counts. I've read some reviews online about the new Continental 5000 lower rolling resistance tires. And I decided to replace my 23mm Grand Prix 4000s II with a 23mm Grand Prix 5000. There is a difference. I measure my tires with calipers to…

Sidewall issues cause cracking under braking

I like the way these tires roll. However, when they thinned the sidewalls compared to the GP 4000, they created a problem that made the tires unusable for me. I've had two broken sidewalls on tires that were under 200 miles. I thought the first tire was bad so I replaced it with a new GP 5000 and the same thing happened again. Both ejections occurred while braking downhill from a relatively steep slope. I weigh about 200 pounds and mostly use the front brake to slow down when needed. My theory…

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • It's ok

My new tire for training and racing.

I've been a Schwalbe fan for years and particularly a fan of the Schwalbe One Clincher at both 25C and 28C. After reading many reviews I decided to give the Continental GP 5000 a try , although I had bad experiences with some gravel kings a few years ago. Back-to-back on the same bike, wheels, tubes and presses, the GP5000 28C is slightly faster on my well-ridden training routes and feels more "flexible" compared to the Schwalbe One. After about 2000km practice rides on my regular routes they…

  • Excellent overall performance

My Defacto Tire Choices (Updated Review)

Update December 2021 It's been a few years since I started running Conti 5000 tires and I think it's about time to update this review and rating. I originally gave the 5000 tires three stars when they came out because they were about "a size" narrower than the 4000 tires I've been using for a number of years (both the original version and the "4000s II" " version). I'm still driving Conti tires (Grand Prix 5000 "Standard", not TR or TL) on all three racing bikes. I like the ride quality as well
