Tire width 23mm Grand Prix 5000

I have inspected my TT carefully ahead of the upcoming races and decided that I need to change the rear tyre, it just showed a flat spot in the middle. So everything matters in the TT, I just can't live with that little flat spot in a race where everything counts. I've read some reviews online about the new Continental 5000 lower rolling resistance tires. And I decided to replace my 23mm Grand Prix 4000s II with a 23mm Grand Prix 5000. There is a difference. I measure my tires with calipers to make sure I'm getting the right width under pressure. After a short wrestling match. The 5000 measures 23.95mm at 115psi. Pity! Because the 23mm 4000s measured 25.6mm at 115psi. This is the perfect size for my rims. At 26.2mm on the brake track, the 23mm 4000 gives me a great aero profile. This is why I use 23mm tires, when I run 25mm 4000s they go beyond the width of the rim when inflated and create drag. So I couldn't live with a wider, taller front tire. I removed the 5000 from the rear and put it in the front as it is a narrower tire with a lower profile. And put 4000 in the back. I can live with that and look forward to my upcoming 40k TT race on 9/10/19. I'm going to buy a 25mm Grand Prix 5000 and see how far it will pump up to 115psi. I hope this helps people trying to find the ultimate advantage in speed.
