'Set and forget'. When you're done, it will turn off.

I never get scale in my espresso machine when I use distilled water. I've even filled a 55 gallon aquarium with it, which allows me to last another month between water changes (minerals accumulate as the water in the aquarium evaporates, so distilled water just dilutes them back to the previous level). I made over 100 gallons of distilled water in the 6 months that I had. That, and I expect to do a lot more. With an espresso maker, a fish tank, and the gallons I'm making for a friend's CPAP machine, this machine has already surpassed the time, shipping, and cost of getting it in the store purchased distillates paid for made water. Water. I recycle well-washed plastic gallon milk jugs and juice jugs for water storage. After shaking them with hot soapy water a few times, I fill them with hot water and leave them overnight before rinsing them well again. the faintest smell of juice or milk remains when I fill them with distilled water, but to be sure, the first few fills of distilled water into the aquarium then the plastic jugs are clean. I wouldn't bother with carbon-filtered distilled tap water because it's odorless and chemically free of dissolved ionics. I joked that if our tap water was ever declared undrinkable we would just run it through this still, but I understand that volatile pollutants like hydrocarbons are not removed.
