Review on ๐Ÿ’พ Efficient Data Storage: BUFFALO LinkStation 210 4TB Home Office Private Cloud with Included Hard Drives by Tai Waldbillig

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I can't believe this LS210D 2TB NAS DOES NOT have an Energy Star HDD hibernation!

I'm an IT manager with 38 years experience and have installed hundreds of NAS devices from 30 different companies, from basic to high end, and EVERY cheap Iomega NAS from 15 years. Home was using Energy Star with automatic hard drive sleep detection to save power and extend hard drive life, and this Buffalo DID NOT! This is unacceptable even at the reduced price of $115! Their tech support commented "Well this is for home use", this is the environment where an Energy Star hard drive with slowdown/power is needed as home users VERY RARELY access their NAS, even in the cloud! S/MB or larger, your NAS gets accessed all day, but how often do you do it at home? Yes, the device has a MANUAL OFF SETTING. The clock mode set by the owner will turn off at the time you set and turn on again at a different time, but it will NOT activate if you try to access it from a computer or tablet network or smartphone over the internet! This is CHEAP technology, inefficient and terribly inconvenient! If you are buying this for a home or small business where access to this NAS is infrequent and you want the hard drive to last longer, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS Buffalo LinkStation LS210 2TB NAS! Get Buffalo together, you should be 1) a NAS specialist and 2) a networking company and you should know better! NAS units and 6-year-old Seagate 2TB "GoFlex Home" NAS, all UNDER $150 designed for home use or S/MB use, and ALL HAVE an auto-shutdown feature when idle.)
