Strong Chemical Odor

I have been using the Honeywell HPA200 room air filtration system for a number of years. This system uses two R-type filters. Replacement filters have been great for a number of years, but about a year ago Honeywell's R-type filters started smelling very strongly of some type of chemical. I went to several big stores in the area to find replacements and they all smelled the same, that strong smell of oil. This gas release makes me and my partner feel bad. This seems to be a known issue as there are many reviews with this complaint. As a result, we were trying to find third-party filters that didn't smell, so we bought these VEVA Type R filters. I hate to say this, but they also smell like chemicals. The smell is different but strong and noticeable and I don't want my house to smell like that. Both VEVA and a third-party manufacturer of Honeywell-branded filters appear to be based in China. I think both companies need air filtration course 101 - don't make an air filter that emits chemicals into the air if the purpose of the filters is to improve indoor air quality. I will not buy these again.
