My boys (just over 2 years old) are running on a full charge. One of my boys (both Airedale brothers) recently took a large rock the size of a matchstick and turned it into a $3,000 diamond that doesn't shine. In other words, he managed to swallow it and eventually blocked his intestines. He required emergency surgery which was able to remove the stone and unfortunately 4ft of intestine due to the infection. I won't go into all the details, but it was for a while. Finally he started eating (about 7 days before/after the surgery, by which time I was ready for some meds), the vet's "prescription" in the can that most vets carry with them will be the Don't mention brand. They said he might need to stay on it because of the shortened intestines so he could process enough nutrients from it. A few weeks later he stopped eating it altogether and continued trying to get at his brother's (eagle flock) food. I looked at the formula in the jar and realized that it didn't have very good ingredients, along with a few other things, and decided to let him try his normal food again. He started eating it like there was medicine in it. He started gaining weight better and his energy levels skyrocketed, although some of this may still be related to the surgery. I spoke to the vet and he said it should be fine as long as he seemed to be processing it normally and was getting enough nutrients. It's a small crumb so he wasn't worried about it going through the new gut connection as the vet said he could get a dry version of the 'prescription' formula. Please do not take this as a medical opinion, you should always consult your veterinarian on these matters, especially when it comes to surgery. This was just my opinion on the quality of Eagle Pack dog food. Happy to report that a few months have passed and he is doing great, along with me and his brother, back to full Airedale speed and energy - yes not always good but nice to see again.
