Review on 🚴 Super Bright Solarstorm X2 5000Lm 2x CREE XML U2 LED Cycling Front Bicycle Light - Perfect for Night Rides! by David Romo

Not quite the advertised specs - don't expect extreme brightness or runtime

Ok - took this to check the 'current' condition of cheap flashlights - went with Solarstorm platform as there is so much information there. Good - it works, it's lightweight, and it'll work pretty well once it's ready to go. Fur: Emitters are not CREE XM-L as the title says. There seem to be "Latticbright" emitters appearing instead of CREE parts. Practically without information about the manufacturer, one cannot draw many conclusions from the output. Even Cree units put out a maximum light output of around 1200 lumens in the best conditions, so you know it's impossible to match the advertised 5000 lumens. I charged the battery on my Turnigy Accucell Smart Charger after a full discharge cycle. Then I discharged and charged - I only get about 2100-2200mAh in and out of the box. I removed the shrink tubing, there are no markings on each cell indicating manufacturer or capacity. For this 2S2P pack, that means these cells only hold around 1100mAh each (if that). If the driver pushes the emitters maybe 2A high, you should get about an hour of high-level runtime. How long these elements will hold this capacity, who knows. Also, the heat path from the emitters to the case is minimal, and if I'm serious I would reinforce that heat path with copper or aluminum. Aside from everything else, this is a decent light combined with a much better battery for $30-$50 - you've got a decent overall setup.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Don't really like it, it's ok
