Review on XYZ INVT 3000W Power Inverter Car Electronics & Accessories by Troy Coskillas

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The 36V 3KW unit died after 10 minutes of use.

I bought a 36V 3000W/6000W inverter. I wanted to understand how long it can run at or near rated load before overheating, or if it only runs at rated load before camping. I installed it in my office which is at 72F with a battery that can easily deliver 200 amps continuously. I hooked up and ran three 900w resistance oil heaters. I measured the power output and it was 2685 watts. It worked for about 15 minutes and then shut off with a continuous beep. The input voltage never dropped below 33V and the red LED never came on. I unplugged the load, cycled it and it just toggles and pulses on and off on the display. I looked and saw that 2 of the 8 fuses were blown so I replaced them. I then tried adding a 10 ohm pre-charge resistor before turning the power back on, but couldn't increase the input power. The input stage in which the fuse blew is not short-circuited and the device does not work. Given the low ambient temperature, the robust battery and the purely resistive load, this was the most perfect test I can think of. So I'm not sure if this 3000w inverter is actually a 3000w inverter. I have a spare and if it works well I will increase my rating to at least 4 stars, if it dies again I will return it and give it a star.
