Great scanner for the price. I'm an architect and I mainly use it to scan black and white drawings that I make by hand, which I scan and then edit in Photoshop or import into 3D modeling software. This scanner works great in this process. The 12x17 format allows me to create a fairly decent sized original (I usually save it in 11x17 format to ensure everything is scanned) - much better for my workflow than the 8x10 format. The software was a pain but my neighbor IT Tech solved it. The color isn't critical for me - (after reading other reviews on this product, I scanned a watercolor original and it came out a little dark - I increased the resolution to 600 dpi, adjusted the brightness, and scanned again as PNG and a black line appeared on the image hmm) a PNG color scan at 400 dpi worked great for my purposes - (screenshot attached, original 12x16) I won't give it a 5 star rating as my photo test failed . I scanned a photo of a barn (400 dpi .png) and details fell out on the shady side (screenshot attached 4x6 original) - maybe a solution, I don't know, but I don't want to get overly excited and mislead other, the other have needs.
