The cord will stretch and is wrapped in fabric so it won't get caught as easily on other items in your kayak. The Velcro end attaches to your paddle or pole and seems to be of high quality. The other end is a well stitched fabric loop that you attach the included carabiner clip. The carabiner clip seem to be made of aluminum (perfect for salt water) and is the screw closed type which is another added security feature for not losing your paddle or pole.
