This would make a fantastic gift for a 5 year old, especially someone who likes to dress up. We bought this for our nephew who has recently started dressing up. He liked that there were a lot of supplies - a stethoscope, a syringe, a mask, a jacket, a name tag, and some other cool medical supplies. Some of them click and do things when played with, which he loved, and the stethoscope makes a heartbeat when a button is pressed (and batteries added). Because it's so much more than just a costume - it has all the fun accessories that look real enough for a 5-year-old - it's a truly addictive toy. We thought he would play with it for 5 minutes but the first night he spent an hour with it treating anyone who wanted to pose for him. He called us a few days later (with help, of course) and threatened to call him to his house if we didn't visit him right away. We heard he changed his clothes and continued to play doctor with all the visitors who came to the house last weekend. Who knows how long he'll be playing with him, but he's spent so much time with him and was so excited from the start that we're so excited about the gift. had an accident earlier this year and had to spend several hours in the ER to get stitches, and he was particularly keen to play the role of a doctor after this tiring but stimulating experience.
