Edit: I wore them one time and tried to wear them a second time but one of the batteries is dead and will not charge.I was under the assumption they heated my whole foot but instead they only heat your toes. With that being said my feet are toasty warm in my slippers. I tried all the heat levels and 3 is too hot for me, maybe when it gets below zero it'll work out better. They're pretty simple to get going. Just hook up the battery and turn them on. They are remote controlled and the controller is about the size of a car key fob. I would suggest putting it on your car keys or connect a key finder to it.
