Screwed right into my old tub. I like that it's solid brass. The filter part seems very strong, I don't think it will collapse after stepping on it a few times. I expect this bathtub drain to last 100 years (that's no exaggeration). A few notes for potential buyers: The color of the inside of this drain under the strainer is brass yellow. It's not chrome or nickel, just a nickel filter cap. As already mentioned, make sure you get the right size. I've measured mine a few times to make sure everything is ok before ordering.
