Great product that saved me from major gum surgery but it has one major flaw!

I bought this advanced cordless model for two reasons: 1. I didn't want a large bulky unit with pipes and cords in my bathroom. Needed an irrigator to use while traveling. This is a truly fantastic product that ultimately helped me get rid of my gum disease and prevent major gum surgery. My periodontist was so amazed when I saw it and did a double shot reading the file I had. last seen 6 months ago! He had almost no work. I've been using it since early October 2017. When I first used it, it alternated between tickling my gums and feeling like needles were sticking in my mouth! I couldn't, so I drilled my whole mouth and my gums bled in several places. I wasn't prepared for PULSE water as I assumed it was just a constant flow of water. You'll need to be persistent as your mouth needs to get used to the sensations of the irrigator. It took me about a week to get used to it and during that time my gums were still bleeding. Over time, the bleeding slowed down and eventually stopped altogether, as did my swollen gums. First impressions. It was a little bigger than it looks in the picture. Unfortunately I had to start on the LOW setting as the water pressure is quite strong. A month later I switched to MEDIUM and am now on HIGH, some reviews have mentioned feeling the pressure isn't strong enough but it seems the measure is compared to the fork model which is understandably stronger. However, I don't think I could personally handle much pressure as sometimes when the nozzle is not properly aimed at the gums it still feels like pins on the gums, but that is very rare (the pressure of this portable model is about 75 pounds per square inch). The little valve you fill the tank through doesn't feel too tight when you first use it, but it works like a charm and no water leaks out. The buttons are well placed and cannot be accidentally pressed. At first it was quite difficult to do the inside of my teeth until I realized that the nozzle rotates, which makes a big difference. From a travel perspective, it comes with a gray plastic blocker that fits in place of the attachment. This prevents residual water from escaping. It's quite difficult to pour out ALL the water so make sure you put it in a zipped bag when traveling as there will be a small amount of water. I floss any water that runs out before using the irrigator. There's no particular reason for this other than that I'm used to flossing anyway and feel like it helps remove plaque from the sides of my teeth. The container holds enough water (I think there should be a balance between size and capacity). I fill 3 or 4 times during the session which is very easy to do. a custom hard case option that is taller on one end and narrower on the other to avoid adding bulk to your case. A hard case is a must, otherwise there will be button presses and a chance of the device going haywire. It's quite large when you take it out of the case PLUS Portable Efficient wireless charging (more on that below) Fantastic performance 3 compression levels Ergonomics feels good in the hand MINUS Not a proper hard case Dumb battery is a big problem Doesn't drain completely so that's on Traveling a small amount of water leakage BIG shortcoming The reason for only four stars is that the battery is very old technology because if you charge it for more than four hours the battery will overcharge and will not hold a charge making the Waterpik unusable. One might expect that the battery shouldn't be a problem with the technology available today, but it's mentioned in the manual, not highlighted, and the implications aren't explained. Waterpik really needs to deal with this issue as it could damage its reputation. It's worth paying a few dollars not to have this problem. To charge the device, place the magnetic charger on the case closer to the ground (the charger will be magnetized and automatically stick to the right place) and it will start charging, BUT you have to remember that the charger has to be removed once it is charged (about four hours), which is quite inconvenient. It's a fantastic product but I would ONLY recommend it if you're willing to charge and manage it. It would be really nice if Waterpik would comment and clarify the issue.
