It’s decent compared to some of the other temporal thermometers I’ve used but it’s definitely not super accurate. My toddler has medical issues that result in a hospital stay of at least 48 hours if he gets a fever. I’ve gotten readings as low as 97 all the way to 101 within a minute of each other when both of our rectal thermometers would prove them to be wrong. I’ve even had it try to tell me I was 90 and my son was 91. Sometimes it’s somewhat close (ex: 99.1 rectal and 99.4 with this thermometer) but there doesn’t seem to be any sort of trend for when it decides to do that. I’d say that happens about 25-50% of the time. I asked my son’s doctor about what to do and she said only rely on rectal readings because these thermometers are notoriously inaccurate, especially in kiddos his age. She said at most use it as a screening tool to decide when he needs a rectal temp taken so we aren’t doing it multiple times a day. She is the 3rd doctor I’ve asked who has given me that answer. I really wish I had better things to say about it because it’d make things a lot easier at home.
