I've had problems with Code 42 for at least a year. I restored a 1988 K5 Blazer. The biggest problem was figuring out the source of the code, which is a very misunderstood small-block GM problem. Code 42 is set by either the ignition module or the PCM. After replacing the aftermarket heavy duty coil with this Delco D503A AC coil the problem went away. Once I stopped frying the ignition modules everything settled down. Despite the lengthy diagnosis, the machine works like new. You can't go wrong staying at the AC Delco.
