Review on 🐠 GloFish Aquarium Gravel: Vibrant Fluorescent Colors - A Must-Have for GloFish Tanks! 5-Pound Bag by Randy Robinson

Heed the warnings in one star reviews - fish are dangerous!

As an aquarist of 50 years of experience, I dismissed the relatively small number of one star reviews as inexperience or negligence. Big mistake! I always rinsed new gravel well and this gravel only had a few small particles in it when I washed it. I've only used natural colored gravel for years but wanted to change the look of my community aquarium. I chose this gravel because it was correctly described as smooth, which suits my three Corydoras mustaches much better. Within 6 hours of putting this gravel in, all of my neon tetras were dead and my guppies and corydoras were showing signs of stress. Note that a few Bronze Corydoras spawned every few weeks so I know my fish were healthy. After several days with almost constant partial water changes, the condition of the remaining fish did not improve. So I removed all the gravel along with half a water change and eventually the fish were a little better after a day. Corydoras, which used to be voracious gluttons whenever flakes or frozen brine shrimp entered the aquarium, are still not being eaten, so the decision on whether these fish will survive has not yet been made. Be warned by the aquarist who has been keeping fish for over 50 years: this substance is deadly, or at least very dangerous, to tropical fish.

Pros
  • Great for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Poorly thought out
