The middle pen holder is really only large enough for a "regular" sized Bic pen (or cheap pen of that nature and size). I wouldn't recommend putting a larger pen in the middle because it would probably leave a mark/print on the inside of the front cover. The small from pockets are perfect for a few business cards and pieces of paper of that size. They even included a Samsill notepad, which was a nice surprise! I replaced it with a standard yellow legal pad and it works perfectly.
