I love this laptop stand and will be buying more. I bought it for two reasons: to elevate my laptop so its screen is level with my external monitor, and to lift it off my desk so my cat can't walk on the keyboard. The stand is very strong - it's heavy. base - a metal tube; the clamp (and there are several mounting options) is also made of iron. The stand my laptop sits on is also metal. The only caveat I can offer - and this is NOT a missing stand - has to do with the notch on the platter. As you can see from the photo, the edge of my laptop that rests against this panel is quite thin. I have a plastic case on the bottom of my laptop that increases its height almost to the top of this lip. I'm afraid the laptop might slip if I set it at a steeper angle. I should probably remove the bottom of the case so the laptop sits a little lower. VIVO also offers multi-armed models. My kid needs extra desk space and I'm thinking of buying one for her laptop and some audio gear for him to sit on.
