The product's legs (most of these items) are made up of several parts that snap together before attaching to the clasps. For some reason the tolerances between the parts are so tight that they get stuck as soon as you snap them together. Maybe it's because the parts that slide into each other are painted, or maybe it's a design element that adds extra stability to the finished product. The point is to get it right the first time. Once you have joined, you cannot redo your work. Of course, the instructions provided are not intended to clarify alignment or final assembly. I've assembled all types of furniture and have never come across a pre-placement that I couldn't cancel. 2 runs because if you build it right the first time it will probably work fine.
