It's like a slip-cover for your feet, but the bottoms protect you from pointy rocks and hot sand on the beach. If you're doing water activities on hot surfaces, you should get these shoes. They're great. Only issue I've had is the liner comes out really easily, but that might be because the shoe itself was a bit big for my foot (I'm a size 7 US womens). i glued it down in a couple spots then got some sand stuck under it. So, I guess don't glue the bottoms down like I did.
