Running shoes are admittedly a matter of personal taste. The main criteria for me are acceptable comfort with stability, wear resistance and price. There are many options for around $140. At 5 pairs a year, I'd rather save about $30 and find a generation of Kayano back. For me, the Kayano wears well, especially outdoors, on concrete and pavement. The top is never an issue, just like the other two popular brands. FWIW I also use Sorbotane material plantar inserts to remove the originals but they are good for a few years. If I can't find a Kayano generation in my size, the ASICS Evolution 6 is a good substitute.
