Once installed, the lights provide the light needed to locate the switch.

Once installed they work great. They are intelligently designed to power the light. The light plate has contacts that touch the screws that power the ceiling light. I often had to bend the contacts to make sure they worked. But after they were fixed, we really liked them, so we installed them in every bedroom and hallway.
