Review on Epson Perfection 1670 Photo Scanner by Rahul Schatz

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good scanner for home use

First I got an Epson 3170 which kept freezing on my eMac. There was a driver issue that Epson didn't list on its download site. I picked it up and bought the 1670 from the Apple Store. It's not as good as the 3170, but it doesn't crash, and Epson has updated the Mac drivers since the 3170 returned. I have hundreds of slides I want to burn to CD and the 1670 can do 2 at a time. time, compared to 3170, which is 4. It may take me until the end of the next life, so I'll try to show slides on the screen and take digital photos that way. This scanner is relatively quick and easy to use. Buttons on the front, I don't use them. Open the scanned images in Photoshop or the associated editing program (PhotoImpression) and work from there. It's a bit loud, the sound reminds me of an old jukebox making a selection. I am disappointed to have taken back the 3170 but I am confident that this scanner does more than I need and what it does is more than adequate. You can't go wrong. The discount helped too.
