I bought two of these mainly because I love my ThermoPro TP-08S and expected it to be a great product. The warranty was also a plus in my decision. I only opened one up and applied it compared to the Etekcity Laser Grip 1080 I already have. The first noticeable difference is the smooth finish of the ThermoPro TP30 body compared to the Laser Grip 1080 which has a tactile finish (on the handle). The second difference is the batteries they require. ThermoPro = AAA. Laser Grip 1080 = 9v The last feature is the adjustable emissivity. The ThermoPro has it, but the Etekcity Laser Grip 1080 doesn't. I use my LaserGrip in the kitchen to check the temperature of the pan before I boil eggs and before I mount steaks in cast iron skillets. It also helps to make sure my cast iron pancake pan is at room temperature before you start making the pancakes. Temperature readings between ThermoPro and Etekcity 1080 range from 4°F to 20°F depending on where you set the emissivity on the ThermoPro. I didn't buy this to play with the radiance feature. What would be nice is the calibration procedure for the block as it was set and forgotten. I am currently considering returning both ThermoPro TP30s for a refund.
