My name is Chris Winter and today I'm going to take a look at what has become one of my all time favorite lenses, the Panasonic

Hi everyone, my name is Chris Winter and today I'm going to check this out Check out the Panasonic 20mm 1.7 which has become one of my favorite lenses. I've been using this lens for about a year and have absolutely fallen in love with its image quality and size. If you haven't already seen it, be sure to check out my list of the top 5 Micro Fours Thirds lenses. I'll put a link in the description box below, so go ahead and check it out. First, let's look at the build quality of this lens. When you first pick up the Panasonic 20mm 1.7, you will definitely notice how small it is. Although the lens has a very large aperture of 1.7, Panasonic has managed to shrink it down to a tiny size. There's not a lot of plastic in this lens either, with a metal body and metal mount on the back. it feels like it will last for years. On the front we have a beautiful focus ring that rotates incredibly smoothly. i really like it There's no image stabilization or a manual focus switch on the lens, but that's because it has full-time manual focus, which is nice. Before using the 20mm 1.7, my favorite focal length lens was the 50mm on a full frame body. But now everything has changed, and now it's 20mm. This equates to around 40mm for these cameras and is an excellent field of view for most shots. Just so you can get an idea of what focal length is. This is what 20mm looks like. And just for comparison, here's what 12mm looks like on a Micro Four Thirds body, and this is what 32mm looks like. So for me, being 20 is a very good medium. Now let's talk about bokeh or background blur behind your subject. .Before I found this lens I never would have thought that you could get such a shallow depth of field with a) such a small lens, b) a 20mm wide angle and c) a small micro four quarter camera. But as you can see, I was wrong. I really enjoyed shooting with this lens as it delivers amazing bokeh. It's creamy, smooth and non-intrusive. Not only that, even wide open the shots are still very sharp and you still get a nice bokeh. I am very impressed. The 20mm 1.7 has a minimum focus distance of around 20cm, which isn't the closest focal length lens you'll find. But that doesn't mean that you can't take nice detailed shots with it, as you can see here. when we zoom to 100%. But it's definitely not a dedicated macro lens. Well, one of the biggest issues people have had with this lens is the autofocus speed, and guess what, I had no issues with it. I've consistently found the 20 1.7 to have very good autofocus speeds at all apertures, comparable to my DSLR with a similar lens. Switching to manual focus is no problem for me. So if you're worried about all those autofocus issues you've read about online I'd forget it, this is a great focusing lens, especially for its size.
