Review on Tarriss Lock SearchAlert Midnight Black Travel Accessories by Amanda Austin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Well designed bag lock but remember no TSA bag lock is 100% secure.

. On a planned 18 day trip to Asia, I needed a bag lock that could withstand the pounding of multiple carousels and checked baggage conveyors. I previously had a Samsonite lock that came with a traditional metal shackle. It took less than 3 rides before the shackle buckled and the locking mechanism failed. Not to mention the damage the metal shackle on the zipper did to my trusty hard case. Also, I tend to tuck the zipper in and lock it under the luggage strap to prevent further damage to either. However, this has the additional effect that pressure is constantly being exerted on the lock and zipper mechanism during my ride. So I wanted the lock to be able to flex when attached to the zipper to avoid damaging the zipper. The Tarriss Cable Lock is perfect for this scenario. There were other reviewers who blamed the Tarriss for poor construction or for the easy-to-open locking mechanism. The fact is, TSA bag locks are unreliable. The design of the master keys has been leaked online. These locks can easily be severed. The only reason to lock your checked baggage is to prevent opportunistic theft through baggage handling. It takes ruthless handlers mere seconds to hold, transport and get your luggage to the right flight. But this time is enough to give them a chance to capture something valuable. Such a lock can deter thieves for a few seconds. But a few seconds are enough to convince them to choose another bag that is easier to open. Needless to say, this lock worked perfectly on my trip. And it has withstood a lot of abuse. The cable had adequate slack and the lock body was strong. As such, all TSA bag locks are inherently unsecured. A cable lock, like the Tarriss TSA Lock with SearchAlert, solves a specific problem with bag locks. And it has the added benefit of showing you when a TSA agent has opened your lock for inspection. With that in mind, I recommend the Tarriss TSA lock with SearchAlert to keep your bags safe for your next trip.
