Nice little DC supply

My 12v wall wart died. And when I opened it up, there was only a transformer, a rectifier, and a small filter capacitor. The cap failed and DC did that with a big wave, bad cap. I wanted to replace it with something better. Finding this power supply was a good decision. Having used it for a few weeks now, it offered a good fit with constant tension. My device no longer beeps because the ripple is gone. I reused the original transformer with this one. Add the 120VAC power cord to the original transformer and reconnect the original DC output cord and I'm back in business. It works well. With the multi-turn trimmer potentiometer, the voltage can be easily adjusted to the desired voltage. And gives a good stable output voltage without ripple. The terminal block installed on it was a nice bonus. Just loosen the screw, slip my tinned wire under the square washer and retighten. This is a type of connection that works well with solid or tinned wire, or a ring or blade terminal can also be used. The device has a built in red LED connected to the output to let you know when it is on. I removed it and replaced it with a panel mount LED and routed wires to the board where the LED used to be. Since I installed it in the project box, I wanted the LED to be visible. There was enough room around the mounting holes to use #4 mounting screws and threaded posts to mount it. I'm pretty sure the holes are metric but #4 fits very well with a little more spacing and works well for me. I would unreservedly recommend this unit and will most likely purchase more in the future. This is what he looks like in his new home.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Little repairability
