Review on Sony DNE509 ATRAC3PLUS CD Walkman by Kevin Brianne

The Sony DNE509 is a great product and worth buying. It plays regular CDs, MP3 CDs and Sony's proprietary Atrac 3Plus technology. The only problem with this device, however, is the lack of a display backlight! I am sure that everyone who buys this player will agree with this part. Either way, you'll forget about it and the Sony DNE509 proves to be a great product in terms of both build quality and sound quality. The included Atrac 3Plus software is what really adds value to this product as it is very easy to use and create Atrac format CDs. Personally, I've found that Atrac's sound quality is much better than MP3's. In addition, a standard 700MB blank CD can play music for up to 77 hours, as opposed to 52 hours for MP3s. The included stereo headphones are exceptionally good and don't allow for more expensive additional headphones. They're of little use if you intend to use these headphones for workouts or brisk walking, however. Headphones around the neck are best suited for this. Again, the key layout is very well thought out and practical. The "Hold" function on the back of the player makes everything perfect as it disables all other buttons and prevents accidental button presses while moving or walking. I've tested many options from Koss, Panasonic and iRiver but the Sony DNE509 is the best in terms of: 1. Build quality 2. Sound quality 3. Atrac 3Plus music format - Sony's proprietary technology 4.
