Review on Timeless Elegance: Abong David Wooden Gear Clock - A Must-Have for Classic Décor by Justin Santiago

So much potential but the set seems to be falling apart

I really liked the design of this watch. It's enough that I first detailed all the non-interacting parts (dial, hands, numbers, weight, pendulum) to get something I would buy off the shelf. Like those mentioned in reviews like this one, I'm very tech savvy, have watched tutorial videos and spent hours on this project - I've bought entire tool kits (razor saw, raw graphite pencils, various glues, clamp sets) just to ensure the best Quality but most of the time seems to have gone into fixing manufacturing defects. First: sand off all that crappy resin and fix the wobble from the laser cuts on each gear tooth and other parts. (See image.) Second, I noticed that the holes in the *jig* [that you use to align and create all internal assemblies] were not drilled perpendicular. (See photos of axis and pin alignment in base and result of pendulum mounting assembly). Apparently my best efforts yielded only a few clicks in the face of obstacles like this. I contacted mfr several times: they supported me, but at one point I was told that I could "push steam" on the gears to fix the warped parts and the main answer to most of my other problems was [it should work because we made it]. Since I've already put so much effort into it, I've ordered this kit *again* for alternate parts. Guess the new kit had all the same issues and more. At the end of the day, you *can* get this watch to work - obviously some have and it will look great, but you really need to be prepared for a lot of blood, sweat, tears and hassle in the "Kit" environment should not exist to the extent that it seems to *many* people trying to complete this project.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Good overall but...
