Anti-instant gratification

I'm not a handyman at all, I've never polished or glued anything in my life! The watch is relatively easy to put together and there's kind of a unique "aha" moment when you realize how everything works together. Ok, let's point out some cons, but the watch is assembled FOREVER. I spent maybe 15 hours in total, also check out the tutorial video on youtube, especially the escapement wheel and sump arms need to be glued in the right direction or there must be a bad headache!

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Definitely better product than many similar sets sold on Amazon today - the wood is thicker and the mechanism is more durable. However, if you've been thinking about putting it together with someone else, forget it. It requires gluing each sprocket together with its corresponding cogs on a template made from a watch case, and you can only make one cog at a time, meaning it's a 'hurry up and wait twelve hours' type project . I was hoping to do this with Grandpa but it's just not worth it as you…

  • Easy to use

The manual has errors

I'm still working on the clock. Due to errors in the instructions, I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. I suggest you take a close look at the wheel assembly pages for Table 29 for the fourth wheel, Table 37 for the third wheel and this is very important, Table 45 for the escapement wheel and do this before you glue the gears on to the wheel. If you If you don't glue the gears to the right side, the fourth wheel or third wheel will not be destroyed, but the escapement wheel will be completely…

Second purchase disappointed

After trying four times to contact the Tru Inertia seller to purchase replacement plates, I sent the whole set back. The replacement kit must have been the so-called 2nd. The holes in the front frame were drilled in the wrong places. Either the bearings don't fit, or the axles are crooked. Gear #3 does not move at all as the misalignment causes the other gears to deform. I stuck straws into the axles so I could insert the axles into the bearings while trying to assemble the frame. The pendulum…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • When in doubt

I wish I could redo it with another glue

Watch well designed and very few plywood chips. My problem is with the adhesives that the manufacturer uses. Against my better judgment and against the advice of a friend who works a lot with wood, I used quality glue of the types listed in the instructions. The wood glue deformed the gears as my friend said and the super glue cured too quickly to ensure all the gears were properly seated on their axles prior to installation. My watch is damaged because before I could be sure it was straight…

So much potential but the set seems to be falling apart

I really liked the design of this watch. It's enough that I first detailed all the non-interacting parts (dial, hands, numbers, weight, pendulum) to get something I would buy off the shelf. Like those mentioned in reviews like this one, I'm very tech savvy, have watched tutorial videos and spent hours on this project - I've bought entire tool kits (razor saw, raw graphite pencils, various glues, clamp sets) just to ensure the best Quality but most of the time seems to have gone into fixing…

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Good overall but...

This is a beautiful watch. I gave it to my son for Christmas. He did a really good job putting it together without much help. However, there were some design issues that prevented it from being functional. This applies primarily to the clock's gears/shafts/bearings. 1) The holes that the bearing is in are slightly larger. The bearing is not tight in the space provided and the outer ring of the bearing spins freely in the bore. 2) Shaft dimensions are not compatible. The attached shafts fit…
