For some reason I thought polyester fabric should be waterproof because another brand I bought had waterproof leather covering the foam. This one is pretty much the same, but the back straps are tied rather than fastened, and the fabric isn't waterproof and gets dirty pretty easily. Ours is already looking pretty dirty, even though I've washed her a few times and she's less than 2 months old. I basically throw the whole thing in the washing machine along with the straps and wash on the gentle cycle. After the 2nd or 3rd time I didn't even bother to remove the foam as the foam had to be washed off anyway. If I had known this fabric was not waterproof I would not have bought it. However, I kept it because I didn't want to go through the returns process for it, which I perhaps should have known about before ordering.
