True pure sine wave inverter, nice design, no load power 6w, would buy again

This is my third purchase of a Giandel inverter and I have been happy with all three. My previous purchases were a 2200w sine wave inverter and an earlier version of this 300w sine wave inverter. While designing inverters and UPS systems I was fascinated by how they reduced the cost of a sine wave inverter. PWM control and output filter significantly increases cost compared to modified sine/stepping inverters. There aren't many loads that are safe to use stepper shafts for, with motor and magneto/transformer loads being the worst. Additionally, any electronic load with an EMI filter (computer, television, electronic HVAC fan, etc.) can damage the EMI filter in the load. I don't think most people should risk using a modified sine wave inverter. You get what you pay for and could damage some of your devices and even start a fire. current without load. It's only about 6W in standby mode. When I first tested this I found I could easily set off a low voltage alarm which latched. You must turn the power switch on the device on and off to reset the alarm. What I found was to be expected: any voltage drop when starting or running the inverter helps set off a UV alarm. These can be: a bad battery, insufficient wiring, undersized wiring to the cigar lighter socket, a dropped fuse, and an ill-fitting cigar lighter plug. So if UV alarms go off, check those first before blaming the inverter. As was the case for me, this is likely user error. My only downside with this is that it doesn't have UL or ETL safety marks to indicate the product has been certified for electric shock and fire protection. There are many products from Asia that are poorly made and don't have these security labels. So if I get one of these I'll test it before I use it. What I did to spread the tension. :) They used reasonable safety margins and I noticed that they also have good EMI designs. Ground pins on standard 120V (NEMA 15-20) outlets are left open, so be aware that the ground is open. This is usually fine for most devices, but only consider it really safe for double insulated devices. Note that this wiring trick is common on many low power inverters, but not on UL/ETL inverters or UPS systems! Overall I felt this was a good buy and safe to use with my floating battery and double insulated CPAP machine. .

Pros
  • Starters, chargers and portable power supplies
Cons
  • Not sure
