I am using Otterbox Defender with an iPhone 3GS. And I've never broken my phone despite accidentally dropping it. However, this version of Defender was very difficult to open, allowing me to put my phone inside. I insisted, but note that the 'flap' protecting the lightning connector 'folds back' in the opposite direction. In order to plug in the Lightning cable, I have to press down on the "plug" on the back of the phone, which is very inconvenient and doesn't allow connecting without looking.
