I'm a substitute teacher, and everyone loves to test the sub. While I have no problem getting everyone's attention, yelling tanks morale and hitting the lights causes more of a distraction. Some teachers use a bell, others clap, use hand signals, or some other thing. It is always different and it's hard to remember/keep track of every teacher's trick, so I have my own now.I got this bell and it has quickly become one of my most valuable tools. It is sturdy enough to toss into my backpack and it works every time! From 6th grade to hardened seniors at continuation schools, a bell just works. It is my new woobie. Some students will giggle and ask where dinner is, but I take it in stride because all eyes are immediately on me. I've even incorporated how many times I have to use my bell into how I rate classes. Students who have heard my military voice in past classes also appreciate the bell.I wish I had gotten one of these from from the start. Fantastic value. Invaluable classroom tool. That is all.
